There are three most common species of cockroaches in the state of Florida:

American cockroaches are found in moist shady areas such as hollow trees, wood piles, and mulch. They are occasionally found under roof shingles and in attics. The cockroaches dwell outside, but will wander indoors to search for food and water or to avoid extreme weather conditions.

  • German cockroach

The German cockroach is light brown to tan in color, with two black stripes running horizontally behind their heads. One thing similar to the American cockroach is that these cockroaches are capable of flying but rarely do, not as much as the American cockroaches.

  • Oriental cockroach

Oriental cockroaches tend to grow up to an inch long and have dark, shiny brown bodies. Females have wide bodies and short wings, while males have narrow bodies and longer wings; despite possessing wings surprisingly Oriental cockroaches don't like fly.
